So this is the end of a term and I feel that I have moved along really well. I have almost finished the bar and there are still a few changes I would like to make to my guy character. I will continue the work over the break so that I am ahead of the game.

The scene has been taking a really long time to render. But here is the newest render. The scene I feel has really come along and hope that I will be able to continue texturing.

So I am slowly texturing the items in the bar because they are taking a very long time. But the scene is almost there!

So I have new images of the bar and have added the jukebox. I was able to duplicate the negative light to achieve the evening look.

So my bar has come along. It does take a while to render and I can't wait to begin texturing this weekend. But here is a recent render that took 40min.

Well, I have spent all week setting up my lighting for my bar scene and it is taking forever to render so I am posting an image with only a few lights in the scene. But the scene is working really well. I should be texturing this week also.

I have spent all week and weekend rebuilding my character's head. I have finally found something that will work. I will soon begin binding the skin and painting weights. About time! Also, my bar is moving right along.

SO for the past week I have work really hard on my bar. I am now dropping in the items such as the bottles etc. I have also created the window and candles. I will soon have the door, and drapes that hang from the ceiling.

So I have recently been modeling the bar and character and now need to work on the final touches to the bar. There needs to be some stools and tables along with a lounge bench in the corner. I have been working really hard to get this stuff completed so I can begin texture and lighting. I missed a week for posting since I was in Siggraph and forgot to post my new items. I can't wait to get this stuff completely finished.

Other than having been really busy getting my thesis ready to present, I have now chosen my friend to use as my ugly guy. I am planning on using his body, but I will be changing his face. Photos to come.

So my idea has not changed, just the name. After careful consideration, I thought liquor lenses would be a lot funnier and it would be easier to see out the bottom of the liquor glass. I now have images of different bars for all to see.

My Thesis Project Proposal

Since I have now changed my idea to a funny animation, I basically have to start all over again. I am planning on getting images of very nice wine bars this weekend so that I can begin modeling the bar scene soon. But for the first four weeks I would really like to have both of my ugly characters done so that I can get the textures down. I know that I will have to create my male character more than once so that he gets better looking every time the wine glass goes back down to the table. The woman character will only have to be created once because you will not see what she looks like until the end of the animation. I plan on doing the animation through the woman’s eyes. The second half of the semester I plan on texturing the characters and building the bar so by next semester I will be ready to animate. I would really like to learn proper texturing techniques so that I can get a great look for the bar. There will be a number of wine bottles and liquor bottles behind the bar that will be need. They will also have to look like they have fluid in them. The only problem I see arising so far is the wine in the glass. This fluid will have to flow like the real thing and has to react to the character’s movement.

So over the break, I realized that my thesis idea was way too complicated for the amount of time that I have. I have now talked to a number of people and plan on doing an animation about "Wine Goggles". This one is going to be hilarious.

This past weekend

So I flew to Kentucky to see my family this weekend and to go to the Kentucky Derby. It was awesome. It was the first time I have seen my parents since September of last year. They are from Michigan, but they had tickets and invited me to fly out and see them. I will post some images as soon as I get them from my mom. And yes she had a really big hat. It was kind of ugly.

So I have been working on my environment for my thesis and it is going great! I do not want to tell everyone the story yet, but the environment is a home office.

So this is my first post ever on a blog. I am a little weary about posting to these things, but it is a requirement for one of my classes. I am currently a grad student in animation and think it is going very well. I should have thesis images soon.
